“…obviously by Trifari”

Today I want to share my latest jewelry acquisition. It is a 1958 Trifari crystal brooch and earrings set.

3 1/4″ Trifari brooch and matching 1 1/4″ clip earrings advertised in 1958

The 1958 advertisement showing this pin can be found in Anne Mitchell Pitman’s book Inside the Jewelry Box Volume 3, page 198 or on www.morninggloryantiques.com. The advertisement features six different pins called Pins àla-mode! (The title of this blog …obviously by Trifari came from the 1958 advertisement.)

The red version of this design is featured in the center of the advertisement. It has a very different “look” than the crystal version shown here. I’ve also seen this design in blue.

Back view showing the open-back settings for the rhinestones AND the negative-open space in the petal design. Each petal is slightly curved at the tips.
Round stones in faux prong settings outline the shape of the leaf. The center of the leaf consists of baguette stones ending in a triangular stone.
The earrings match the center of the pin.
The thick rhodium plating is easy to see in this photo of the back of one earring.
All three pieces are signed Trifari with the copyright symbol.

The set arrived in a blue velvet box. Crystal jewelry can be a challenge to photograph; however, the blue velvet background worked beautifully.

This set is flawlessly made. Each soldered connection is strong. The stones are top-quality. The rhodium plating is thick and smooth.

The fully symmetrical design has typical Trifari “touches” of elegance. This can be seen in the slight curve of each petal, the way the marquise or navette-shaped stones alternate sizes, the negative or open space, and the use of faux prong settings to add a lacy quality to the leaves.

This set is …obviously by Trifari! and a new member of my collection. Next to my family and friends, this is my 2022 Holiday Treasure!

Happy Holidays and Happy Collecting!

Love, Julie
