Kafin Jewelry Creations

Very little is known about the origins of the lovely jewelry signed Kafin New York. Several sources online give the dates of operation from 1946 – 1963. I am unable to verify this information; however, the dates are consistent with the style of the jewelry.

The Jewelers Buyers Guide from 1954 lists Kafin Jewelry Creations, Inc. at 19 W. 36th Street, N.Y., N.Y. The listing describes the company as a manufacturer producing “Rhinestone, tailored – bracelets, necklaces, pins, earrings, etc. to retailers.”

Many, but not all, Kafin designs share some recognizable brand traits. These traits are not UNIQUE to Kafin but are often present in Kafin designs.

The necklace measures 15 1/4″. The bracelet is 7 1/2″ with a 1 1/4″ dangling charm.

Brand Traits: This rare Kafin set illustrates four Kafin brand traits: embossed metal, art glass stones, book-chain connectors and a bracelet with a dangling charm.

The back view shows the book-style connectors and fold-over clasps.

The set also has a rare, innovative design element. Under the pierced metal, in both the bracelet and necklace design, are “hidden” art glass stones that reveal themselves when the jewelry is worn.

The high-quality emerald rhinestones featured in the following set are unfoiled. The larger stones are partially covered with the filigree setting and then affixed to the double link chain.

The necklace measures 17 1/2″. the bracelet is 7 1/2″ with a 1 3/4″ charm. The clip earrings are 1 1/4″. The flat bracelet charm has room to be engraved with initials on the front and/or a short message on the back.

Brand Trait: This style of double link chain, used as a base for stones and charms, is a brand trait of many Kafin designs.

The necklace design is symmetrical in the center but asymmetrical on the sides. The left side of the necklace has prong-set stones all of the way to the back. The right side has only four stones followed by four double links.

The necklace is UNSIGNED. However, the bracelet and earrings are signed.

I was surprised when I found the Kafin hang-tag on this beautiful beaded, bib-necklace. It illustrates the variety of jewelry styles and designs produced by Kafin.

The necklace measures approximately 16″ including the extension chain. It is a symmetrical design consisting of blue aurora borealis and clear crystal beads.

Close view of the construction of the necklace. Beads are strung on metal pins. Then the end is curled into a closed loop so the pins can be strung together. This necklace has 62 pins!

The sparkling yet neutral colors in this design work with almost any outfit. It is an attractive and unique way to fill an open neckline.

I purchased the following bracelet and earrings set because of the size and rich color of the Madeira topaz stones. For those who prefer, this set was also made in vibrant blue.

The bracelet fits a 7 1/4″ wrist. The earrings are 1″.
The large stones are prong set with fancy prongs and then mounted on a thin, textured base. It is a comfortable and lightweight link design.
The back shows the decorative backing and the book-chain connectors.
The stones are set with etched, fancy prongs.

Brand Trait: Details, like the fancy prongs shown above, are a brand trait of Kafin jewelry. The jewelry was designed and produced with quality design details.

High quality Kafin jewelry, especially signed sets, is not easy to find today but, in my opinion, worth the search.

Happy Collecting,

Love,
