Much of the bergère jewelry in the collectible market today consists of beautiful metal designs including chains, charm bracelets, and designs incorporating natural elements: pearls, faux turquoise, mother-of-pearl, and leather.
It was sold in department stores like Bonwit Teller for modest prices. This 1958 advertisement lists a necklace for $12.50 and earrings for $4.00.
The 1957 advertisement below showcases three different bracelet designs, including two charm bracelets, all decorated with faux baroque pearls. Note the beautiful double-link bracelet chains and the decorative metal settings for the pearls.
The following bergère sets illustrate the beautiful metal work.
Fully symmetrical, this hinged panel-style bracelet is solidly built and comfortable to wear. It has a push-in clasp and safety chain.
The intricate design is polished and decorated with faux turquoise and crystal rhinestones. It is a fully symmetrical design created with circles and curved lines. Although NOT sterling, it has the look and feel of sterling.
The quality of this design, the metal used, and the condition of the finish date it to 1948 – early 1950s.
The bright gold plating and construction of the next set date it to the 1970s. The India inspired design is decorated with tiny faux gemstones and has the look of fabric.
The pendant and bracelet are unsigned. The clip earrings have the bergère signature.
Both of these designs feature intricate metal work, tiny faux gemstones, and intricate designs. They have survived today in excellent condition.
