Antique Festival Find

Today is a fun jewelry day! The weather is beautiful, and I spent the morning at the Liberty Antiques Festival in Staley N.C. with my beautiful daughter. We found many jewelry treasures including the DeLizza and Elster Siam/red rhinestone pin shown above. (The photos do not capture the deep fire of this piece.)

The third section of COLOR, just added to Collecting Costume Jewelry 404, discusses the power of specialty stones to enhance a design including specialty stones with the aurora borealis finish. Light is reflected off this finish like a rainbow that add sparkle to a design. This DeLizza & Elster brooch is an exceptional example of the power of the aurora borealis finish to change the color scheme of a piece.

The shape of this brooch is round with seven round floral elements. The darker stones are a deep red called Siam. The brooch is outlined in small Siam aurora borealis stones that flash blue in light. Seven additional, round floral elements decorate the top. Each of these top elements are comprised of Siam aurora borealis stones including the large center stones. The way the aurora borealis finish interacts with light transforms a monochromatic color brooch (Siam/red) into a brooch with two primary colors (Siam/red and blue).

I’ll try to post another Liberty Antiques Festival find soon. Did I say we had a great time? We did! Happy Collecting, Julie.
