Julie Vos jewelry is designed in New York City but manufactured in India and other places around the world. The stones are all hand-set. The nickel-free brass metal is 24K gold plated and then sealed to prevent tarnishing. Many of the designs include semi-precious stones and doublet stones comprised of faceted glass fused to a mother-of-pearl backing.

What is your favorite materials to work with?
Semi-precious stones. The colors are more beautiful and wearable than the precious stones. Diamonds are hard and cold. Rubies and emeralds go with just about nothing and don’t look a jot as good on the skin as labradorite, chalcedony, moonstone and rose quartz.

Julie Vos is a self-taught jewelry designer. She holds a degree in English Literature and a Masters Degree in Short Fiction Writing. Prior to starting her company, she worked for her father at his marketing and advertising agency. In the following interview she discusses her reasons for becoming a jewelry designer.
I can’t say I set out to become a jewelry designer, it is just something I fell in love with – making things that people wear that give them so much pleasure.

Definition: A trunk show is held at a retail location or other venue where the vendors present their merchandise directly to customers and retail personnel, who place orders. The vendor manufacturers the merchandise to fill the orders.
This is an early Julie Vos cuff bracelet with an early script signature. It fits an average size wrist and features a semi-precious center stone. Two important Vos design traits, that she continues in her later designs, are present in this bracelet.

The Julie Vos chain-design toggle bracelet shown below is heavier and chunkier than the one above. It is called the Cannes Link Bracelet. The Vos website describes it as “Luxurious gilded hammered links with toggle closure.”
Julie Vos’ multi-color rose-cut glass doublet bracelets are some of her most popular designs. This example features square rose-cut doublets in five colors: iridescent lavender, iridescent white, sapphire blue, labradorite, and iridescent Pacific blue. This bracelet is part of the Catalina design group and named after Catalina Island off the coast of Southern California.
The rose-cut glass in these bracelets is imported. The bracelet measures 8″. It is 24K gold plated and has two large textured rings, so the bracelet is adjustable. The toggle is signed with the Julie Vos logo.
The Catalina bracelet below features imported, iridescent rose stones. They are doublet stones with a mother-of-pearl back.
The eye-catching red color was advertised in the Julie Vos Jewels that bring Joy Holiday 2022 Catalog. It is called the Savoy Demi Bracelet. The stones in the ruby red bracelet are smaller (at least 1/4″ smaller) than the stones in the Catalina bracelet.
Brand Trait: It is important to study the different aspects of each design group. The differences can be subtle. For example, the ruby red bracelet shown above is the Savoy design because it alternates the shapes of the links between square and rectangles. A similar bracelet in ruby red was also offered in the Barcelona style featuring only oval shaped links.
The Byzantine Hinged Cuff with iridescent Chalcedony blue stones is vibrant, statement bracelet.
Julie Vos offers many bangle bracelets that are beautiful when stacked.
The Milano Luxe Bangle features six stations of iridescent coral stones set in 24K gold plate. It is available in small, medium and large. This example is a L with an inside diameter of 2 3/4″.

Most of Julie Vos jewelry is designed in collections including pendant/necklace, bracelet, and more than one style of earring. The set below is called SoHo named after a neighborhood in New York City renowned for its ART and shopping. It is beautifully described in the Julie Vos 2022 holiday catalog as “…our downtown New York-inspired designs.” This design was one of Julie Vos’ first and most successful collections. It remains available today. It is sold in the mixed metal style shown here and the gold style without black enamel.
Definition: A quatrefoil shape is defined as a symmetrical shape with four overlapping circles of the same diameter. It is often found in architecture. There are many variations of the quatrefoil shape.
The SoHo collection also includes stud earrings in the quatrefoil shape and two styles of longer earrings – SoHo Doorknocker in a long oval shape and SoHo Statement earrings featuring a large quatrefoil shape.
A more delicate set, in two different colors, is the Julie Vos Cosmo Stud earrings and Cosmo necklace shown below.
Measuring .5″ in length these studs are described by the Julie Vos website as “A constellation of sparkling CZ surround a radiant gemstone of richly hued rose-cut glass.” These are a charcoal color.
Design Trait: Julie Vos collections often include jewelry in multiple colors, sizes, and earrings styles.
Julie Vos earrings feature french wires or gold plated posts with distinctive Julie Vos backs.
Design Trait: Often Julie Vos offers the same design in both the stud and the hoop/charm designs.
The Savoy Stud is a symmetrical design with a “twisted” wire detail outlining the cross-shape. They are available in Clear Crystal, Bahamian Blue, Pearl, Coral (a new color), and Cubic Zirconia.
Some of Julie Vos larger earrings feature French wires like the Meridian Earrings shown below. The online description for these earrings is “A richly textured, compass-inspired charm…”
The compas-inspired front and back designs are the same, except the back includes the Julie Vos signature crystal. Other than this crystal, these earrings are unsigned.
Brand Trait: Some Julie Vos earrings are only signed by the presence of a small crystal on the back.
The Julie Vos Antonia hoop earrings feature Bahamian Blue rectangular-shaped cubic zirconia stones set in 24K gold plate.
Definition: A shell-pearl is made by humans using much the same process as cultured pearls. Shell pearls are made by coating a tiny bead of mother-of-pearl and then coating it with the inner lining of oyster shells. In this sense, a shell-pearl is a lab created pearl.
Julie Vos offers many “delicate” designs including the Butterfly Delicate Station Necklace and Butterfly Stud Earrings shown below.
Julie Vos offers wonderful pendant necklaces for her collections. For example, the Loire Pendant below is named for the Loire River, the longest river in France. It features 24K gold plating. The stone is described on the Vos website as an imported, iridescent clear crystal in a faceted cushion shape. It is a rose-cut doublet with a mother-of-pearl back.
The inspiration for this design is the long, French Loire River. This idea is supported by the extra-long length of the necklace. The Loire River is also called the Garden of France because of the many beautiful orchards and vineyards along its route. The pendant features a trellis (basket weave) design in contrasting textured and smooth metal. Trellis’ are decorative elements in many gardens, so the trellis motif fits in well with the overall theme of this necklace.
The Loire necklace is a flexible design. The chain is long enough to be wrapped around the neck twice.
Design Trait: Julie Vos flexible designs can be worn in different ways.
The Barcelona statement necklace below is also a flexible design but in a different way than the Loire.
The Julie Vos Barcelona Statement necklace measures 19″ and has a front toggle clasp. It is 24K gold plated and features a rose-cut, iridescent pink doublet stone consisting of imported glass and mother-of-pearl.
This is a flexible design. The toggle closure works in any of the links, so the necklace easily converts to a longer “Y” necklace design.
Julie Vos collections include many large and small ring designs. This example is called the Windsor Statement Ring with an iridescent clear crystal, rose-cut doublet center stone. It is described on the Vos website as having an “elegant chevron detail on a tapered shank.” It is 24K gold plated.
Definition: A chevron is a “V” pattern. In this design the term refers to the “V” pattern in the rope details along the shank.
