Collecting Costume Jewelry 101

My name is Julia C. Carroll. I’m the author of four books on collecting costume jewelry. Welcome to my Collecting Costume Jewelry 101 webpage and BLOG for beginning and intermediate collectors!

Thank you to everyone who purchased and enjoyed my books. The four titles below are unfortunately out-of-print and only available in the secondary market.

However, there is good news!

For fun, I wrote Collecting Costume Jewelry 404 The Basics of Recognizing Great Design. It is available to read for FREE by clicking on the Collecting Costume Jewelry 404 cover. Of course, the information is copy protected, so permission is required to copy the text or photos.

The Information link on the red ribbon leads to additional reference materials and articles.

My weekly jewelry blog follows. Scroll down to read previous entries or click the BLOG INDEX link below for an alphabetical list of past blogs.

  • Mazer/Jomaz

Good morning, Yesterday, I added Mazer and Jomaz to the list of Classically Collectible Brands in Chapter Two of Collecting Costume Jewelry 404. I hope you enjoy the new entry. There are two parts to Chapter Two. Part One includes Classically Collectible Brands that began prior to World War II that have, through integrity and…

  • Nolan Miller

This lovely pin is signed Nolan Miller. It is separated from the original paperwork, so I do not “yet” know its official name. It is a wearable 3″ in length with crystal rhinestones and rhodium plating. Nolan Miller designs are often inspired by vintage jewelry. Currently I’m working on the MAZER/JOMAZ information for Chapter Two…

  • Hobé

Hobé has been added to Chapter Two of Collecting Costume Jewelry 404. I hope you enjoy it! Mazer/Jomaz is next. I loaded the pictures into the website today and hope to combine them with the text in the next few days. I wish I could wave a magic wand and have all of the manuscript…

  • Miriam Haskell

Miriam Haskell design information has been added to Chapter Two. It was fun to put together and I hope you find it concise and helpful. Although Miriam Haskell and Frank Hess frequently traveled to Europe for fashion updates and to source materials, the Haskell designs, especially those made in the 1940s, are American. They are…

  • Eisenberg, Nolan Miller

Good morning, I’m continuing the process of converting Collecting Costume Jewelry 404 to work on the website and today I’m happy to announce that Eisenberg has been added to the list of brands in Chapter Two AND I’m beginning work on adapting Miriam Haskell. It is going well and should be posted next week. I…

  • Boucher

Adding to an existing set is a joy for a collector. I was thrilled to find the bracelet to match this beautiful Marcel Boucher set shown in Chapter Two. Now I’m looking for the earrings. I’m sure they are wonderful, too.

  • Nolan Miller

New Nolan Miller Schreiner Style I want to share one of my newest Nolan Miller pins. It was made in the 1990s in the style of the iconic Schreiner ruffle pin. The keystone shaped crystal stones are set to resemble the undulating shape of a ruffle. The center stone is a light purple with blue…

  • Hattie Carnegie

Good Morning, I’m happy to announce that Hattie Carnegie has been added to Chapter Two, Collectible Jewelry Brands. The colorful title headings for all of the brands added to this chapter are designed by my talented granddaughter! Grandparents will understand when I say, the cover makes me gloriously happy whenever I look at it! Grandchildren…

  • Cover for Collecting Costume Jewelry 404

The following cover was designed by my eleven-year-old granddaughter. She selected the colors, the fonts, the pictures and put it all together on her computer. I LOVE it. It is my favorite cover and means more to me than all of the others.

  • Update on Collecting Costume Jewelry 404

Design element 5: Visual Weight and Design element 6: Balance have been added to Chapter One. Chapter One Section I is now complete. YEAH! Also, a menu has been added to the top of most pages so moving from section to section is easier.
